Description

On sale DeWalt 8.95 kVA AVR Worksite Approved Generator. I’ve not used it a lot, its an emergency generator and I’ve not had an emergency yet.
However, I could not be happier with the choice in buying the DeWalt generator .
It has all the features I wanted, especially the large fuel tank. It starts well, runs well, has tons of output, and appears to be well made. I do wish they were Australian made though.
It’s a beast! bigger than I thought but still quite portable. I feel a greater sense of security as we head into darker times knowing that our lights and fridge will still be running.. Browse our range of DeWALT products available on sale in Australia.

For me its a back up generator so I was after something suitable for intermittent use. So far it has performed well although I had to modify the battery holder to make the battery fit.

  6. Alistair Walsh

Generator looks great and electrician has no issues installing as part of back-up house power supply. The battery holder needed to be modified (mentioned in previous reviews) however I just bent it out in a vice which was fine (and i’m not handy!). Great having it on wheels and handles to easily move around. Hasn’t been used really yet, but tested fine when electrician commissioned it.

  7. Luke Holden

Works well, does the job and then some. Easy pull start, even easier key turn start. Battery housing modifications are minor and easily done (as others have commented). I don’t really trust the fuel gauge as it always says empty. Overall very happy as generator has the WHS requirements which work as they should.

I live in an area prone to power outages that can last a few days. I’d been researching generators a lot and stumbled across this one from DeWalt. Took the plunge and couldn’t be happier. It was shipped within in a few days from the warehouse and delivered with only a minor hiccup which had nothing to do with MyGenerator. I set the generator up and it literally started first go. Had and appliance outlet and manual transfer switch installed by a sparky and he commented on the size and quality of the generator. Generator sufficiently powers my home (within moderation) without issue. A great option for anyone looking for something slightly larger.

Like most I did my research and found this generator to be great value. I wanted an 8.9kVA to run at 50% and power home during long blackouts is days. Generator is great for advertised use as workplace generator but comes with a couple of install catches when connecting to home power board. As worksite generator it comes with earth leakage that does not work with home earth leakage. It’s in the fine print so get a good sparky. 8.9kVA gives you 25A not 2x 25A – so you can’t can’t run at 30A without damaging the geni, voiding warranty and tripping the breakers. I connected one 15A to the house and ran an extension cord for the other. A good device but read the fine print for whole of house use.

Great unit getting it fitted to back up home against grid failures.
Price was good, delivery was excellent.

Excellent value for money. This is a work generator that can be used as a back-up generator to power your home in the event of an outage, providing you understand its limitations. You can’t power the whole house with this thing if you have split systems, electric oven, electric water heater and you’re wfh as a welder etc. But if you want to have lights, fridges, TV, wi-fi, heating controller, kettle, microwave etc running then this will suffice. It has a voltage regulator so your appliances are protected but it is earthed as a remote work-site generator. To work with your home a sparky will need to disconnect the earth leakage system on the generator and if you ever use the generator away from home (eg, with your caravan) you’ll need to re-connect it. However, how to do so isn’t obvious and the circuit diagrams in the manual don’t show you. You need to unscrew and remove the front panel to get at the NEM connection – get a sparky! With a simple 25amp transfer switch wired in to your circuit board this generator gives you a very cost effective emergency solution for annoying power outages. If it’s a multi-day outage you won’t have hot water, an electric oven, or air conditioning but you won’t be cooking on your camp stove by candlelight either. For just over $2k with a further $800 to $1000 for fitting a transfer switch you’ll have a solid power supply for 20% or less of the cost you’d pay for a full, 40amp, system to match your electricity supplier. So, it’s a compromise. Be sure you know what you want but if it’s the easiest and most cost effective system to give you the basics and protect your frozen goods then this set-up can’t be beaten. In this regard, this generator is a real gem!
