Hey all you wood cutters out there, I bought a Baumr-AG 72cc 24 inch chainsaw this year for a 1/4 of the cost of a Stihl saw. Not knocking my Stihl but for cutting jarrah it was just too small. Anyhow I went and got my permit and found where the wood was and fired up my new Baumr-AG saw, I actually let it run for 2 tanks while I used my smaller saw for mid sized branches, which I took, then fired up the Baumr and cut into a trunk 30in thick thinking that I should take it easy for a while till I get used to using one such beast of a saw. So I cut one large load of wood in around an hour and I must say that I was impressed, the tree was still pink inside so it was still quite hard but the Baumr-AG cut it easily, even the parts of the trunk where the branches fork were no trouble for this saw. Now after burning nearly all that first load I ran another 2 tanks through the saw just on idle, occasionally giving it a bit of a squirt then a week later went to cut another smaller load of wood to see out the first 2 colder months of spring. I found the compression of the engine was really good and cos I'd given it a good clean before I'd finished with it the first time round it started as easily as any petrol engine garden tool I have. All in all these chainsaws are really good value. I have 3 Baumr-AG 72cc saws now, one I stripped for spares and still only paid 3/4 of the cost of the market leading chainsaws. Now from what I understand Baumr-AG is German tech and you can liken them to the competitive brands in any of power tools available Bosch v AEG, Makita v Dewalt, that is to say I own Bosch circular saw, grinder etc, but for my rough n ready hand tools I buy AEG drills and Ryoby impact drivers. Now I've had my cheapies for many years and I look after them so I know what I'm talking about. I think the Baumr-AG saws are a good buy and if they are looked after they will last, anyhow we will see after a few seasons of wood cutting and considering that I'll be ordering a few more chains in the future you can bet you'll see an update of this review... Cheers and be safe while you're using a chainsaw, always wear your ppe and keep the area you're cutting in clear of trip hazards :)
